Back in the saddle again

The last time that I wrote an editorial for Bicycle Touring 101 was back in March of 2006. This is more then a year ago and unfortunately it is representative of the very long time during which no new content was added, no more interviews appeared and the touring world passed on by.

Long absences are sometimes experienced for very good reasons. The work I do in my professional life pays for this site and just it's existence on the internet has provided people new to bicycle touring with plenty of help based on the feedback and emails that I've received. In the case of the last year there were a number of projects that needed to be completed before I could return to writing articles, interviewing tourers and creating new polls.

I am happy to announce that the long period of quiet is now over. There have been eight updates to the site since April 17 and many more are on the way. The Contact Us email form has been updated with more anti-spam controls so that once again contacting BT101 is an option.

Two months from now I leave on a long tour. One way that I like to prepare is to think about touring and read books about touring. As a result you can expect to see many more articles appear on the site.

This site has always benefited from the sharing of information from a wide spectrum of tourers so if you have a touring related article that you would like to write or have help writing then please send me an email so that I can contact you.

Interviews are one of the most interesting and enjoyable parts of this site for me personally. I am looking for people to interview. I like to interview tourers from a wide range of experience levels including those who would like to share their brand new to touring experience and those who have toured continents as well as all the experience levels in between. Please don't be shy if you would like to be interviewed. Drop me a note!

The next two months are going to be very enjoyable ones for me. In addition to writing articles and interviewing people I will also be significantly ramping up my tour preparations. On the fitness level this translates to many more hours riding my offroad bike as well as my fixed gear and touring bikes. All of them are fun to ride and all will go a long way towards getting me ready for my next tour.
